Certified locksmiths and security will promote all companies to the public in the most effective way within our means.
We will deal with any issues raised by the public and CLS members in a fair but robust manor to ensure the reputation of the CLS and its members are always protected.
We will seek to protect members from any unfair claims or assertions by customers or competitors by investigating thoroughly and support them where necessary within our ability.
An endorsement is hard earned and is a privilege given by others in the industry. We will take robust due diligence when verifying and support without bias.
We will not conduct, support, or promote any training to new entrants into the locksmith industry. Our members have worked hard to build their businesses so revenue gained from them will not be used to create competition for them.
Certified Company membership is only available to local independent companies.
The CLS Locksmith Licence is open to all locksmiths that meet our entry and ongoing requirements and standards.

We don’t support national locksmith companies or franchises in order to create a balance of opportunity for small and medium-sized independent locksmith companies.
Not supporting national locksmith companies will ensure we don’t support those who are known to quote below market prices but overcharge vulnerable customers, known in the industry as the 49rs.
Supporting local, competent and reliable locksmiths, approved by us and other rated locksmiths is the best way to protect our customers. Â
We intend to minimise the risk to customers when looking for a locksmith, safe engineer or security installer.
1. All certified companies must employ qualified and skilled locksmiths, or security professionals for the services they offer.
2. Certified companies,must ensure they have appropriate insurance cover, this includes but is not limited to Public liability, Employers liability, Electrical, Hot works and Working at height where applicable.
3. All Licenced locksmiths will use non-destructive methods. Although drilling is required in many situations, and to drill effectively is still very skilled, Licenced locksmiths must ensure when drilling they use the smallest possible drills required for the task, and that drilling or other methods of manipulation do not affect the aesthetics and most importantly, the compliance or certification of the door being worked on.
4. Licenced locksmiths and security professionals must use correct parts when replacing failed components to ensure all work does not compromise the security or certification of the door or safe being repaired or upgraded.
5. Licenened locksmiths and security professionals must give clear direction on costs for proposed solutions as early as practicable. This should also be in writing either as a hard copy or electronic to give a clear audit trail that due diligence has taken place.
6. Licenced locksmiths and security professionals only carry out work that is genuinely required and will ensure they disclose any information required by law to disclose.
7. Licenced locksmiths and security professionals are to ensure they maintain a working knowledge of building and fire regulations relevant to the tasks they undertake.
8. Licenced locksmiths and security professionals must conduct robust due diligence when issuing or managing restricted profile and other high security keys both physical and electronic.
9. Certified companies must have appropriate Health and Safety policies required for the size of company and services provided.
10. Certified companies must display a privacy policy on their website and protect personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
